2024 Henry Cohen Lecture Series: A New Agenda for Health and Wellbeing

April 2, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The U.S. is amid a decades-long population health crisis. The world is emerging from a devastating pandemic with tragic and unequal loss of life. These population and public health outcomes are associated with a prevailing neoliberal political economy that have left too many people vulnerable to preventable sickness and premature death.

This conversation will ask: how do we build a world where our economy inclusively enables all people, regardless of their identity, to have the resources to experience health, wellbeing, and dignity? What are the policies and narratives about our economy that need to change for this to happen? And how might a fresh political economy lens allow us to imagine and build new possibilities?

In this spirit, this event will mark the announcement of the new Health and Political Economy Project, which is aiming to craft a forward-looking community and roadmap for change on health.

Speakers include:

  • Harvard University Director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights Dr. Mary Bassett;
  • Yale University Law Professor Amy Kapczynski;
  • President of the New York State Nurses Association Nancy Hagans;
  • President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Health Improvement Dr. Donald Berwick;
  • Family physician, sociologist, and postdoctoral fellow with the National Clinician Scholars Program at Yale School of Medicine Dr. Victor Roy;
  • Practicing physician and Institute Senior Fellow Dr. Dave A. Chokshi; and
  • Institute Founding Director Darrick Hamilton.
