DESCRIPTION:Presented by The Institute on Race\, Power and Political Economy and the Office of Equity\, Inclusion\, and Social Justice at The New School. \nAs part of the Human Rights 75 Initiative\, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Institute on Race\, Power and Political Economy convened a group of leading global economists at The New School on Thursday\, April 20 from 1:30-3:30pm for a pivotal Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue and panel discussion on the potential for a global Human Rights Economy. \n\n\n\n\nThe UN Human Rights Office inaugurated the Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue Series in October 2020\, creating a dynamic platform for exchanging innovative thoughts\, expertise\, and approaches related to economic\, social and cultural rights\, the right to development\, the 2030 Agenda\, and Sustainable Development Goals in light of the current global challenges. \nThe Dialogue Series is named after Hernán Santa Cruz Barceló\, a key figure in the development of the UN human rights framework who played a crucial role in incorporating economic and social rights into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. \nThis dynamic discussion as a part of the Human Rights 75 Initiative has a two-fold objective of bringing together leading economic experts to build the Human Rights Economy concept and to use the Hernán Santa Cruz Dialogue to raise the visibility of the concept in a way that encourages greater awareness on the need for a Human Rights Economy and to encourage increased academic discourse and policy-maker dialogue on the subject.
